In April 2017 some pupils from the Bishopton were given a great opportunity to work with Luca Silvestrini’s Protein Dance project. In collaboration with the ARC Stockton the pupils worked intensively for three weeks to write, produce and perform a unique dance production called This is us.
Influenced by Border Tales, created by Luca Silvestrini in 2013, This is Us takes an ironic yet moving look at identity and the way we are perceived by others. This is Us is the ninth young people’s project Protein has run nationwide as part of its Real Life, Real Dance programme. For Protein , creating and performing dance is crucially connected with everyday life.
The pupils performed This is Us in front of an audience of their peers, families, school staff and public at the ARC Stockton on the 6th April 2017 to rapturous applause.
The feedback obtained by staff and students was outstanding, one pupil wrote “I felt amazing at the end of the process because I am proud of myself” he went on to say “I feel more confident in life now”.
