“It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.” – Albert Einstein
English provides learners with skills essential for their studies across the curriculum and throughout their adult lives. The skills we teach our learners are essential for the workplace and everyday life, promoting independent and creative thinking.
English at Bishopton:
During years seven, eight and nine we deliver a personalised programme of study to our students, with our focus being on the stage of learning the student is currently at, not the age of a student.
Units of work studied over the year include:
- Exploring different genres of fictional texts
- Conflict writing from World War I and World War II
- The study of a whole novel
- Non-fiction writing
- The study of a Shakespearean play
The key concepts studied during years seven, eight and nine, have been chosen to prepare students for their reintegration into mainstream school and their transition to GCSE.
KS4 English at Aspire
At Aspire we offer a two-year GCSE programme of study where all our students are offered Functional Skills Level 1-3 in addition to GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature.
